The Sadistic Dog
By Eta
The boy trudged up the stairs desperately. He had heard a woman scream from the house. As soon as he reached the front door, a wave of fear possessed him. Something was not right.
He gathered up all his courage and pushed open the door.
The door creaked noisily. It was pitch black. He groped around for the lights, when suddenly he felt something run around his feet. From what he could detect, it had fur, a tail, and was licking the knee of his jeans.
“It’s okay, boy,” he said to the dog. He could feel the dog’s tail whacking against his leg, excited. He found this absurd. Wouldn’t the dog be frightened if his owner was harmed? Maybe the lady was okay after all.
He continued down the hallway, but the dog followed him, pouncing on him every now and then. He felt around for a light switch. He felt one and flicked it, but nothing happened. He listened intently. No sounds escaped the home, not the creak of a floorboard, not the heavy breathing of an afeard person.
He brushed the dog away. “Shoo shoo. Where’s your owner?” The dog pressed its nose against the boy’s leg. He sighed. “No, I can’t play right now.”
The dog left for a while and returned with a heavy object in its mouth. The boy felt it. It felt like a bone. It was all wet. Yuck, he thought. This dog must drool a lot. He picked the bone up with his thumb and index thumb and threw it off into the darkness. “There,” he said. He felt around and entered a room. “Hello? Are you alright?”
The dog returned, but not with the bone. The boy felt the new object in the dog’s mouth. It was soft and wet as well. “You want your toy?” he said to the shadows. Although he couldn’t see the dog still, he could tell where it was because of its heavy giddy panting. He threw the slippery object and the dog raced after it, disappearing into the next room, and then returning.
Suddenly the lights turned on, and the boy saw the lady dead in front of him. Her flesh was peeled off in many places and bite marks cut into her skin. Blood drenched the floor and dripped from the lady’s mouth. The most disgusting thing was that it looked as if she was eaten. Her bones were scattered, and still had skin and muscle clinging to them.
The horrified boy took a step back and stepped on the bone the dog had been playing with. It was a femur, doused in fresh blood. The dog’s “toy” turned out to be an internal organ, recently pulled from the woman’s insides.
He noted the red dog prints that were tracked around the room. He turned ‘round where the dog was but nothing was there.
The police came in the next day and cleaned up the scene. Nobody recalled the woman owning a dog, or a dog being in that very area.
